Position Overview
Senior level Mechanical Checker responsible for utilizing Smart Plant 3D to create 3D equipment models from drawings, reviewing mechanical drawings and models for accuracy, and supporting design and construction phases of industrial projects across North America. Requires experience in mechanical design, piping systems, and data‑center equipment.
LocationFull‑time positions available in Houston, Texas;
Lenexa, Kansas; and Lone Tree, Colorado. Remote contract positions are also offered.
Base Salary: $100,000 – $135,000 (subject to education, experience, and location).

Responsibilities- Utilize Smart Plant 3D to create 3D equipment models based on equipment drawings, drafting sketches, P&’s, and modeling 3D equipment for industrial facilities.
- Review mechanical drawings and 3D models for mechanical systems, equipment, and piping for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to engineering standards. Check dimensions, tolerances, and annotations to ensure they match engineering and construction requirements.
- Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement.
- Develop and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes, contract requirements, and company standards. Lead projects and teams of mechanical designers.
- Identify inconsistencies, clashes or missing information and check for constructability.
- Support the construction team by representing the design team on‑site, answering RFIs, providing creative design solutions, and addressing construction issues.
- Coordinate with internal and external design partners, construction partners, equipment suppliers, and engineers to review work progress and results.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Design, Drafting Technology, or related field preferred; if no advanced degree, must have high school or GED diploma and minimum 12 years of 3D modeling/mechanical design experience in Smart Plant 3D for industrial facilities.
- Minimum 7 years of industry‑related design experience preparing 3D models and design documents for mechanical systems and piping systems in Smart Plant 3D.
- Knowledge of piping support design, equipment design/layout, and installation of systems is required.
- Knowledge of piping design standards, specifications, and procedures is required.
- Experience with mechanical design for Data Centers, chilled water, CRAH, and CDU systems is highly desired.
- Experience drafting P&’s, schematics, drawings, conceptual locations, equipment modeling/layout in 3D, and routing pipe in 3D software is required.
- Strong communication skills, team orientation, detail orientation, and strong problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines promptly.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others.
- Perform work safely and effectively, following oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within deadlines; work overtime and weekends as required.
