About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business based on the Beauly – Peterhead 400kV OHL Project to support predominately water sampling for Private Water Supplies and surface water.

The candidate will be responsible for working closely with the wider project Environmental Sustainability team and managing water registers, liaising with Subcontractors and laboratories. An integral part of success will include managing works in line with programme requirements. There will be opportunity to provide support and advice to operational teams on all aspects of environmental management, Consent compliance, developing environmental documentation, meeting legal and company standards and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement.

What

you'll be doing
  • Undertake water sampling across the project and maintain a register of collections and results.
  • Deliver value adding environment projects and support ecological enhancements.
  • Liaise with client, regulatory bodies and subcontractors on matters of environmental management and sustainability.
  • Produce and update environmental risk assessments and site information packs. Provide on-site advice to operations and design teams on environmental management, compliance and project specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecological and archaeological protection.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and support the business to implement controls to prevent repeat occurrence.
  • Ensure implementation of the project environmental management systems on project sites.
  • Be aware of any changes to standards and legislation and where applicable recommend changes to systems and processes.
  • Produce internal and external reports as required.
Who we’re looking for
  • Full driving license and flexibility to travel.
  • Professional Membership level of a relevant professional body (IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM) or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience and competence.
  • Good knowledge of the environment with the relevant experience.
  • Practical experience and sound knowledge of environmental statutory requirements, including environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licensing and consent applications and regulation.
  • Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the best outcome.
  • Be required to visit worksites and offices across Scotland and attend occasional ES meetings across the UK.

Desirable:

  • Experience with working with Peatland habitats, Private Water Supplies or Hydrology.
  • Degree in relevant field or equivalent demonstrable competence.
  • NEBOSH H&S Diploma or equivalent.
  • GIS mapping platform experience.
  • Knowledge or experience of the Construction Industry.
