Job Description

We have an opening for a Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead for the W87‑0 Program’s Joint Test Assembly (JTA) PRT. The Lead will develop requirements and produce components within the PRT scope in partnership with NNSA Production Agencies, Sandia National Laboratories, and programmatic staff from across LLNL. The Lead will manage the technical execution of JTA production, coordinate a detailed schedule with a project management specialist, and ensure on‑time delivery.

This position will be in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) of the Engineering Directorate, which supports the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Program.

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in‑person and virtual presence, and may allow working from home one or more days per week.

Hiring will be at either level based on the applicant’s knowledge and related experience; additional responsibilities listed below will apply if the candidate is selected for the higher level.

You will
  • Provide direction and guidance to a team of engineers to accomplish complex project engineering, product realization, and qualification goals.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete PRT deliverables.
  • Identify issues and take action to mitigate risks to project scope and schedule.
  • Manage and maintain effective PRT relationships with Production Agencies (PAs) executing JTA component and assembly manufacturing.
  • Work under limited direction of the program production lead, help define project objectives, and set specific technical direction of the PRT.
  • Perform technical assessments in support of product realization and document decisions, analyses, and test results in technical reports and engineering release systems.
  • Track progress of tasks, milestones, and schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Represent the PRT at meetings, briefings, and review activities both internal and external to the Laboratory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Establish clear and informed priorities for the team to achieve PRT milestones and deliverables on schedule, and manage execution of parallel risk mitigations.
  • Coordinate with program leadership on staffing and resource requirements.
  • Provide technical advice to program leadership and sponsors on design requirements, qualification scope, qualification risks, and trade‑offs, influencing project direction.
  • Formulate, present, and explain technical and programmatic updates and ensure that PRT risks and requirements are communicated effectively and timely, with recommendations to program leadership, production agency partners, and external sponsors.
Qualifications
  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q‑level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with weapon system engineering, product realization processes, and process qualification.
  • Problem‑solving skills for moderately complex technical challenges.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills for collaboration, presentation, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently within the scope of an assignment, prioritize tasks, respond to changing priorities, and meet deadlines while keeping management informed.
  • Proficient organizational skills and experience with project management tools and techniques.
  • Ability to travel.
