Mechanical Engineer
This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on supporting the development, design, and construction of facility‑related projects from initial concept through final completion. You will design and analyze mechanical systems, prepare detailed plans and specifications, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality, code‑compliant solutions for a variety of facility and industrial projects.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with project stakeholders to define the mechanical engineering scope, objectives, and technical requirements for each project.
- Prepare detailed plans and specifications for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, ductwork, water treatment, process piping, and industrial exhaust and ventilation systems.
- Apply knowledge of materials, labor, and construction methods to develop accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems.
- Design and/or analyze mechanical systems for facilities in various market sectors, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on detailed design drawings to confirm accuracy, system functionality, and adherence to project specifications.
- Compile and organize complete construction document packages, including drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation, for issuance to contractors and construction teams.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines in a collaborative environment to coordinate designs and resolve technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support projects from concept through construction, helping to address design questions and clarify mechanical engineering requirements as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure.
- At least 2 years of experience as a mechanical engineer with a focus on facility‑related or industrial projects.
- Proficiency in Revit for mechanical design and documentation.
- Experience with commercial mechanical design, including HVAC, plumbing, ductwork, and related systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant mechanical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Strong ability to prepare and review mechanical plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Capability to develop and review cost estimates for mechanical systems using knowledge of materials, labor, and construction methods.
- Effective collaboration skills for working with project stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on facility‑related or industrial projects across various market sectors.
- Background in designing or analyzing water treatment, process piping, and industrial exhaust or ventilation systems.
- Familiarity with organizing and issuing complete construction document packages.
- Strong attention to detail when reviewing design drawings and specifications.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative office environment alongside other engineering disciplines.
This role is based in a small office on the south side of Lansing, with a hybrid work schedule that allows for a mix of in‑office and remote work. The office layout supports collaboration, with engineers and designers of the same discipline sharing offices to encourage teamwork and continuous communication, while directors have private offices. The environment emphasizes close coordination among all disciplines, creating a highly collaborative setting where mechanical engineers work alongside other professionals to deliver integrated project solutions.
JobType & Location
Contract to Hire position based out of Lansing, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.65 - $36.06/hr.
