Position Overview

We are actively looking for an Estimating Manager, to lead estimates and an estimating team, for our Heavy Civil Infrastructure work in the TN, KY, MS and surrounding states. In this role, you will work with key leaders in our preconstruction and construction teams, supporting a variety of Infrastructure self‑performed projects. This division of Kiewit executes hands‑on construction in the infrastructure market performing mass grading/excavation, drainage, paving, utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete, asphalt for large scale highway/bridge projects, aviation projects, rail/transit, reservoirs, and heavy water/wastewater.

If you have 10+ years in estimating for design build/EPC projects in the infrastructure market, and at least 5 years managing estimating teams, we would love to talk with you! Duties will include but are not limited to leading and developing a team of estimators, participating in, and implementing win strategies, presenting estimates to executive management and clients, reading and interpreting documents, solicitating subcontractors, analyzing drawings and specifications, value management, reviewing and assisting with proposals, and other duties as required to prepare cost estimates/proposals for various types of work for Heavy Civil infrastructure, primarily all self‑perform work.

Location

This position is located in our Brentwood TN regional office, with travel as needed in the region and to other Kiewit offices. We offer relocation assistance for this position. This position does require being in the office, to manage the team, and is not hybrid, nor remote.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and Lead complete estimates for self‑performed construction scopes of work for design/build, design/bid/build and EPC projects for infrastructure projects (Heavy Civil, Highway, Bridge, Rail/Transit, Utilities, Drainage, Aviation)
  • Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
  • Review and assist with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates. Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions. Perform task management, develop bid strategies with the proposal team, resource level for the projects, and close out estimating processes.
  • Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, Collaborate with project managers, design engineers, superintendents, clients and other Kiewit districts to align expectations, phasing and scheduling of the work to ensure accuracy within the estimate.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
  • Become proficient in Kiewit’s estimating program, “InEight Estimate”.
  • Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection process;
    Lead, train, hire and develop estimating team and lead estimates for projects.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions. Consult with clients/owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design/construction schedule changes, to ensure estimate stays on track.
Qualifications
  • BS in engineering, construction, estimating or similar field, and a minimum of 10+ years' related estimating infrastructure experience. Ideal candidate has demonstrated experience with estimating infrastructure self‑performed construction projects (civil, earthwork, drainage, structural/bridge, grading, concrete, form‑work, asphalt, underground utilities).
