Senior Quality Engineer (Part‑Time
• Logan, UT)

APT Research is hiring a part‑time Senior Quality Engineer to begin a new project in September/October. This engineer will provide quality engineering support focused on processing critical flight hardware, ground support equipment, and system integration.

Responsibilities
  • Work with a variety of systems such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pyros, and pneumatic.
  • Perform inspections, surveillance, and requirement compliance while overseeing fabrication, assembly, test, and checkout of flight hardware and GSE.
  • Conduct assessments and process proofing of contractor operations, Quality Management System (QMS), work procedures, and operational processes to ensure compliance with quality and engineering requirements.
  • Generate and assign Nonconformance/Corrective Action Reports (NCR, DR, CAPA, CAR).
  • Assist in failure review activities, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Provide support for all compliance procedures and policies under the Quality Assurance Plan.
  • Read and interpret drawings, requirements, and specifications.
  • Help develop and maintain the Quality Management System.
  • Assist with internal and external auditing of suppliers.
  • Evaluate adequacy, compliance, and effectiveness of contractor QMS activities.
  • Accept flight hardware/GSE, perform receiving inspections, and review Acceptance Data Packs.
  • Execute mandatory inspection points (MIPs), in‑line assessments, and track associated nonconformances.
  • Identify quality/safety issues and potential concerns that need documentation and resolution.
Required Experience / Education
  • Education:

    BA/BS or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of Quality Engineering/QMS experience.
  • Background in aerospace industry or military experience.
  • Familiarity with aviation or aircraft vehicle systems.
  • Quality auditor experience.
  • IPC Specialist Certification (Soldered Electrical & Electronic Assemblies).
  • NASA Workmanship STD 8739 training in Cable Harness and Crimp Inspection, Surface Mount Soldering Inspection, Through‑Hole Soldering Inspection, Conformal Coating and Staking Inspection, ESD Control, Lithium‑Battery Handling, and Fiber‑Optic Termination Inspection.
Security Clearance Requirement
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance if required.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience overseeing operations involving complex systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, etc.).
  • Technical background in aerospace or military work, familiarity with systems on aircraft or aerospace vehicles, and knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other systems used on military platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, requirements, and specifications.
  • Experience with Nonconformance/Corrective Action Reports (NCR, DR, CAPA, CAR).
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality management systems.
  • Experience with internal and external supplier auditing.
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating contractor processing activities.

  • Only local travel is expected.

  • Proficiency with personal computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, and similar applications.
