Position Overview

The Building Automation Design Engineer will design building automation solutions for commercial building automation systems in new and existing facilities, including higher education, K‑12 education, data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high‑rise buildings, and lab facilities. The role provides a hybrid schedule that combines remote work with occasional visits to the Siemens local office or project sites.

Responsibilities
  • Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for various facility types.
  • Demonstrate expertise in engineering and contracting processes, including submittal requirements and documentation standards.
  • Attend internal and external meetings to support opportunities and contribute technical details to project designs.
  • Prepare and/or collaborate on design documents, including mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, system integration, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts.
  • Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third‑party integration devices connected through Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, Desigo, or BACnet.
  • Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks.
  • Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, and related systems.
  • Prepare engineering re‑estimates and coordinate with sales and management to ensure scope satisfaction.
  • Perform quality assurance and peer‑review engineering documents.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or state‑recognized GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in building automation (HVAC controls) design.
  • Ability to travel up to 35%.
  • Demonstrated ability to design large and complex jobs with some deviation using standard tools, products, and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without company sponsorship.
  • Hybrid work arrangement with visits to the local area office; occasional travel required for team gatherings, project kick‑offs, strategic discussions, or training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor's degree.
  • 7+ years of building automation (HVAC controls) design experience.
