Principal Project Manager

Location:

Littleton, CO (JMTC) | Work From Home: TN, GA, PA, IL

Salary: $–$ per year. Pay range varies by experience, skills, education, and other factors. This position is eligible for an incentive bonus.

The Principal Project Manager is accountable for managing JM’s largest and most complex projects, planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple projects with budgets ranging from $40M to $150M. The role requires aligning with plant managers and business leaders, ensuring resource effectiveness, and meeting all project goals.

Objectives
  • Execute investment projects with budgets of $40M to $150M following the CPP process.
  • Develop, guide, review, and present project feasibility studies and business cases, accurately identifying benefits, risks, and returns.
  • Estimate costs, define resources and timelines, and drive the optimal technical solutions.
  • EVALUATE vendors in collaboration with procurement, engineering, and EHS to select the best sourcing plan.
  • Provide management and oversight across all project phases for multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Ensure Mechanical and/or Electrical Controls engineering reviews for all project aspects.
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications, contracts, and safety requirements for equipment and services.
  • Coordinate external engineering resources and consultants as needed.
  • Manage bid documentation, supplier lists, and bid evaluations.
  • Validate design safety, ergonomics, and environmental compliance.
  • Prepare training plans for maintenance and operations workforce.
  • Drive a zero‑incident project environment by enforcing safety policies.
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders to evaluate potential contractors and engineering firms.
  • Communicate project status, risk management, change requests, and impacts to stakeholders.
  • Document and archive project documentation.
  • Promote best practices in project engineering and management for continuous improvement.
  • Apply lean manufacturing concepts throughout design and execution.
  • Maintain a continuous lesson‑learn logbook and analyze results post‑project.
  • Work with process engineers, production, and maintenance to solve process and equipment issues.
  • Provide engineering input for automation and product packaging opportunities.
  • Stay updated on technology trends through trade shows and key vendors.
  • Coach and mentor project staff and operations teams.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (desired).
  • Strong project management skills with experience on projects $40M or larger.
  • Experience in refractory furnace reconstruction projects within glass, cement, or steel sectors (desired).
  • Proponent/SME for CPP and related process improvements.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and high initiative.
  • Experience managing contractors and sub‑contractors, including the bid process.
  • Experience developing cost estimates, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Solid knowledge of contract design and legal requirements.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera).
  • Exposure to SAP systems and Power BI reporting is a plus.
  • Heavy travel required (30%–60%)
  • Work environment typically includes exposure to cold, heat, high noise, moving equipment, heights, dust, mist, gas, fumes, extensive walking, or climbing.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
