Job Summary
Application Engineer (AE) at all levels is responsible for supporting the salesperson or third‑party sales representative with the technical review of our customers’ application. The AE team promotes the sale of the Division’s products, requiring engineering knowledge to make judgments involving applications, installations, and economic considerations, as well as handling all customer and distributor inquiries requiring technical assistance.
The Application Engineer I responds to and addresses most customer and distributor inquiries requiring technical assistance, where needed the Application Engineer I will be supported by the Application Engineer II, III or Application Engineer Teamlead. The Applications Engineer I plays an integral role in helping the sales team close sales. This job description represents only the primary areas of responsibility; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
YourResponsibilities Will Be:
- Provide technical support and solutions to the sales team and customers from pre‑sale strategy through client implementation for at least two different product ranges.
- Create an overview of all major activities to the execution of the project and creates a risk assessment regarding all of these activities.
- Make cost‑price calculations and detailed offers and quotations.
- Assess (technical) RFQ specifications in consultation with Sales.
- Perform, checks and/or assess technical specifications where applicable.
- Make creative designs to satisfy technical requirements with most cost‑effective proposal (total landed cost).
- Support the development/optimization of calculation models for technical and cost‑price calculations when requested.
- Conceptual design of the respective products.
- Maintain contact with prospective clients (with the support of the team members with regards to technical discussions).
- Support Sales in the correct transfer of a client order to the project manager(s).
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or a related field.
- 0–5 years of experience in a technical or commercial engineering role; prior experience in the Engineering design, and/or commercial industrial manufacturing industry is helpful.
- A proactive, analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities.
- Good communication and intercultural skills.
- Strong English skills (both spoken and written). Dutch is a plus.
- Flexibility and readiness to travel (5‑10%).
- A collaborative team player with a strong sense of urgency and initiative.
- Knowledge of MS Excel (incl. basic VBA programming), Word and PowerPoint.
- Travel required. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 10‑20% of time for customer meetings, supplier visits, head‑office visits (Netherlands) and project kick‑offs).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- The Burgess‑Manning office is located in Elma, NY. Our team works from the office 3 days a week. For this role you are required to do the same. The other 2 days a week you can either work from home or in‑office, based on your personal preferences.
- Office Environment - Work Environment: constant mental and/or visual attention; the flow of work requires focused, detailed attention while working at a computer monitor.
- Typing, sitting, standing, walking.
- The job is typically performed under comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of the job.
- Compliance with company attendance standard. Work hours may vary during peak production cycles.
