The Role
Purpose of the role:
You’ll be enhancing the delivery of the most complex and interesting projects in the world through the power of project planning to the very highest standards. You’ll devise strategies and tactics to improve the way the project is delivered, translate this knowledge into a logic‑linked plan, analyse it using planning software, and use the plan to help the teams understand what to prioritise.
team
This role is part of our Project Management Consultancy team, focusing on understanding real project problems, implementing best solutions, and developing scalable best practices, tools and technology. You’ll be part of the Project Planning Team, led by a planning discipline director.
Your top three objectives- To make construction projects deliver to near perfection
- To create scalable and repeatable solutions to common problems
- To develop yourself and everyone around you
- Own the plan: Own the project plan for one or more projects and ensure the project is working to it effectively. Ensure delays are mitigated and managed commercially.
- Own the outcome: You’re responsible for putting in your best effort to ensure the project team’s understanding and focus on the plan – no matter how stubborn they are.
- Report and inform: Provide simple, actionable reports to stakeholders at all levels that help them deliver their part of the project more efficiently and effectively.
- Make scalable solutions: Develop scalable and repeatable best practices and tools in collaboration with the team so that long‑term impact is achieved.
- Develop everyone: Maximise the development of your team personally and professionally and educate our clients to improve as well.
- A construction engineering background: At least 2+ years of experience on construction projects, experience in project planning (software and principles), decent Excel skills, and a strong interest in data.
- Communication skills: Proficient in written and verbal English; charisma and influence to get construction people to adopt new approaches.
- Leadership capabilities: Lead yourself proactively and lead others by asking the right questions and challenging them.
- Impact: A track record of making projects and organisations better beyond the basics – implementing scalable, repeatable solutions that had a significant positive impact.
- You want an easy, chilled‑out role without much challenge.
- You prefer to be the smartest person in the room.
- You don’t like continuously receiving honest candid feedback.
- You prefer to work independently rather than as part of a team.
What kinds of projects would I be working on? You’ll be exposed to several complex and interesting projects. These may include data centres, infrastructure (defence, rail, highways), high‑tech (advanced manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors), or complex building projects. Projects are dynamic and hands‑on, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Who are our clients? Major owners/operators and main contractors with project values between £1m and £1bn+ globally.
Where would I be working? Work arrangements vary: sometimes remote, sometimes onsite at client sites, occasionally in our London office or other locations. Travel is part of the role depending on project needs.
How does what I do connect with the long‑term impact on the construction industry? You’ll document and evolve solutions, adding them to our knowledge repository. This knowledge feeds into product development, allowing rapid iteration and industry‑wide access through open‑source initiatives.
