Position: Safety and Mission Assurance Engineer (5222C), Space Sciences Laboratory - 86298

Position Summary

Quality Assurance leader, knowledgeable in engineering design and development of aerospace systems including scientific instruments for spacecraft and satellite command and control systems. Ensures the safe integration and testing of spacecraft to the launch vehicle at launch locations.

Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and technical knowledge in Aerospace Quality Assurance and NASA Safety and Mission Assurance.
  • Provides technical review and input for design, construction, and testing of space flight instruments in Aerospace Quality Assurance and NASA Safety and Mission Assurance.
  • Collaborates with team and sub‑vendors to solve and prevent issues through on‑site collaboration and technical leadership.
  • Verifies hardware quality through inspection, procedure review, and test witnessing.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and prepares information and reports on issues related to Aerospace Quality Assurance and NASA Safety and Mission Assurance.
Required Qualifications
  • Detailed knowledge of Aerospace Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of NASA Safety and Mission Assurance requirements.
  • Infrequent travel to partners and subcontractors; possible longer travel associated with launches.
  • Driving to various locations, including remote sites, to support launch operations, inspections, compliance activities, and mission assurance.
  • Ability to pass a NASA visual acuity test ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
  • U.S. Person requirement: lawful permanent resident or protected individual as defined in U.S. law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Aerospace systems knowledge or other engineering specialties supporting Aerospace Quality Assurance.
  • Skills in managing large volumes of information and creating professional documentation for customers.
Education / Training
  • Advanced degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
Preferred Education
  • Post‑graduate level coursework in a related area preferred.
Salary & Benefits

The budgeted annual salary range is $ - $. The full pay scale for this classification is $ - $. This is an exempt, monthly‑paid position and a full‑time (100% FTE, 40 hours/week) career position eligible for full UC benefits.

  • Valid driver’s license and compliant driving record.
Other Information
  • Eligible for up to 20% remote work within the United States, depending on operational and mission needs.
