About the role

Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Sustainable Procurement Advisor, who will be responsible for delivering projects that embed responsible sourcing across Balfour Beatty supply chain, aligning outcomes with our Building New Futures Sustainability Strategy targets.
Sitting within the Group Responsible Sourcing Team, part of the Group Sustainability function, you will work closely with Procurement and Sustainability teams, and support the integration of responsible sourcing into tenders, contracts and project delivery. This includes environmental, social and ethical sustainability.
What you’ll be doingOperating as part of a central Group function, the role requires flexibility to support Business Units, Projects and Group Functions where need is greatest, helping to upskill internal teams and supply chain partners and drive consistent responsible sourcing practices across the business.
- Develop and deliver responsible sourcing projects that support achievement of the Building New Futures sustainability targets, translating strategy into practical actions across the supply chain.
- Work with Procurement teams to embed responsible sourcing requirements into supply chain agreements, considering social value, ethics, nature, climate change and resource efficiency.
- Deliver upskilling and awareness sessions for internal stakeholders and supply chain partners on responsible sourcing topics to enable consistent application of responsible sourcing tools, policies and reporting across Business Units and projects.
- Identify and share best practice across the business, including the development of case studies, guidance material and internal communications.
- Develop and implement initiatives to support Small and Medium Enterprises and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises engagement, capability and compliance, recognising the challenges and opportunities for smaller suppliers within major infrastructure programmes.
Essential
- Good knowledge of sustainability issues, including social impact, climate change, nature, ethical supply chains and resource efficiency.
- Stakeholder management and communication skills
- Have a business mindset and commercial awareness
- Proficiency in IT and ability to adapt to using new IT based platforms
- Some UK travel required.
Preferable
- Relevant qualifications in sustainability
- Knowledge and interest in carbon, such as Scope 3 reporting, PAS 2080, Environmental Product Declarations and whole life carbon.
- IEMA or CIPS Membership (or equivalent)
