Position: Lead Field Engineer - Piping (UGs)

Job Summary

The Construction Lead Piping Field Engineer is responsible for activities of the piping field engineering team relating to construction engineering within the piping discipline. Duties include interpreting piping design drawings and specifications, piping installation/fabrication including pipe hangers and inline piping components, field verification of materials, and technical direction to field piping personnel as required.

The candidate will act as the Lead Piping Field Engineer on an upcoming project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston and later relocate to Cheyenne for a long‑term assignment. This position is contingent upon project award.

Major Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct craft activities; schedule work and review completed tasks.
  • Participate in the development of contract, subcontract, or vendor scopes of work, budgets, and contract negotiations.
  • Engage in team development through CPM, competency development, assessment and feedback.
  • Coordinate operational plans and activities with other disciplines, subcontractors, and resident representatives.
  • Supervise the development of construction drawings and sketches.
  • Support the development of planning construction methods and procedures, including projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.
  • Prepare installation work packages for foreman and general foreman.
  • Oversee reporting of installed quantities for verification and quantity claiming.
  • Review project control documents relating to cost and schedule.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of level 4 and level 5 project schedules.
  • Prepare reports and forecasts, including summaries of construction progress and expenditure forecasts.
  • Coordinate with other subcontractors and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare field material requisitions for permanent plant equipment within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to in the operational area.
  • Ensure the most current design document is used and all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
  • Ensure construction operations and subcontractors’ performance comply with specifications, schedules, and budgets.
  • Implement corporate/project policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned operations.
  • Monitor work activities and ensure the quality of work performed.
  • Interpret engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
  • Oversee engineering solutions with subcontractors, foremen, and craft professionals.
  • Coordinate with design on constructability issues.
  • Prepare testing processes and required test equipment.
  • Support the development of commodity installation means and methods.
  • Implement understanding of industry and international codes & standards applicable to the work scope.
  • Utilize and leverage applicable automation software and processes as applicable.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5–8 years of relevant experience, or 9–12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience on combined cycle facilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of modularization of piping and pipe racks, above‑ground & below‑ground piping systems, and line testing is preferred.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams.
  • Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
  • Able to work extended schedules and night shift as required to support project execution plans and schedules.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
  • Must have work authorization within the United States of America.
