Field Service Engineer – Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS)
In this US-based, field-focused role, you support customers through hands‑on service work on High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear and related substation equipment. You work directly at customer sites across the United States, including substations, utilities and industrial power facilities, providing technical support throughout all phases of project execution. Your work includes installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance and handover activities, often across multiple active sites based on customer needs and service demand.
This role combines practical engineering execution with on‑site problem solving in live operating environments, contributing to the safe, reliable operation and ongoing service of critical high‑voltage infrastructure supporting the US power grid.
- Provide technical support across all project execution phases, including commissioning, testing, acceptance and handover.
- Supervise installation and commissioning activities for GIS substations at customer sites.
- Run troubleshooting activities involving field personnel and subcontractors.
- Maintain compliance with safety standards and company policies at all job sites.
- Ensure correct use of tools, equipment, vehicles, materials and supplies at site locations.
- Oversee contracted maintenance activities to confirm work is completed effectively and efficiently.
- Maintain detailed site documentation including operational procedures, performance reports, test data and equipment manuals.
- Coordinate and communicate internally and externally to enable smooth completion of site operations.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline is preferred but not mandatory.
- Relevant experience in engineering and/or construction environments, preferably within the power industry.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage teams and conflict situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Project.
