Distribution Engineers & Designers
Leidos seeks Distribution Engineers and Designers in Rhode Island who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. You will work directly with clients to ensure exceptional quality on all projects. The role offers experience in NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.
TravelThis position supports remote work but requires you to be located within commuting distance of Rhode Island. You will be expected to attend in-person meetings and assignments across the Rhode Island customer territory as needed.
Responsibilities- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
- Develop work packages for overhead, underground, urban renewal, and make‑ready projects using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Small world, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work
- Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow‑up
- Conduct scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities
- Initiate continuous improvement of workflow processes to enhance efficiency and quality of client design deliverables
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; develop large design packages for complex cable or conduit projects in dense urban areas; prepare work permits, easements, and ROW applications
- Conduct field visits to collect data for work package development
- Communicate effectively with local electricians, utility engineers, and town engineers
- Minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering preferred; additional relevant experience or certifications may substitute for a degree
- Proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations
- Own reliable transportation for occasional local or regional customer‑related travel (travel reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates)
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Estimating costs, developing a bill of materials, and calculating the cost‑impact assessment of claims (CIAC)
- Use of design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult
- Work management and job estimating software
- CAD or Micro Station for electrical distribution design
- Collaborative attitude and inclusivity of diverse backgrounds and locations

$59,150.00 - $ (general guideline; actual compensation depends on responsibilities, experience, skills, and market factors).
