Position Overview

Our REVIT Electrical Designers at Kiewit play a central role in developing complex electrical power distribution and control systems for large‑scale industrial facilities. You will translate engineering intent into highly coordinated, constructible electrical designs using advanced 3D modeling in REVIT and Smart Plant 3D. The role spans medium‑voltage and low‑voltage systems, grounding and bonding networks, cable routing strategies, lighting and photometric layouts, and equipment integration for process‑driven environments.

You will collaborate with Engineering and I&C design teams on projects that drive reliability, safety, and constructability for critical facilities. Our Industrial Market is growing in hyperscale data centers, water/wastewater, and campus/industrial energy sectors.

We hire designers for a career and offer educational assistance, hands‑on mentoring, and development opportunities to advance your expertise in electrical design.

Location

This position can be based out of locations where Kiewit has offices (Lenexa, KS; Lone Tree, CO; Bloomington, MN; Houston, TX). Relocation assistance is offered to the Lenexa, Kansas district office only. For Senior Designers (10+ years in REVIT or Smart Plant 3D) we may consider fully remote work in the Bloomington or Houston office.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize Revit 3D and Smart Plant 3D to design and draft drawings for electrical systems in buildings and industrial facilities.
  • Produce key deliverables including power distribution diagrams, electrical schematics, one‑line diagrams, 3‑D models, load lists, panel schedules, cable and equipment sizing coordination, power and lighting plans, grounding layouts, cable tray and conduit modeling, and equipment 3‑D layouts (transformers, switch gear, MCCs, VFDs).
  • Generate model‑based quantity takeoffs, conduct clash detection, and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Apply codes and standards to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Identify scope changes during small projects and produce design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Senior Designers may lead projects and mentor other designers.
  • Initiate and lead meetings to resolve design issues and maintain clarity across teams.
  • Meet or exceed quality and outcome expectations for internal and external customers.
  • Perform work efficiently, effectively, and within company quality standards.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED plus a minimum of 5 years of related electrical design experience, including 5 years with REVIT or Smart Plant 3D.
  • Senior Designers: minimum of 10 years of experience with REVIT and/or Smart Plant 3D.
  • Collaborates across departments, initiates meetings for clarity on work, and engages others in problem solving.
  • Supports project teams with drawings, specifications, IO lists; understands NEC code and ANSI/IEEE standards.
  • Manages multiple responsibilities, meets deadlines, communicates effectively verbally and in writing; detail‑oriented and a strong team player.
  • Experience with multi‑disciplined teams, subcontractors for equipment, design‑for‑construction; design‑build or EPC project experience preferred.
Working Conditions

Other Requirements:

  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Work productively and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others in a team environment.
