Cushing Terrell is excited to invite applications for the position of Medium Voltage Electrical Distribution Engineer to strengthen our dynamic overhead distribution team. This is a hands‑on opportunity to innovate and enhance our distribution capabilities while working on a range of projects involving substations, as well as overhead and underground distribution systems.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and develop electrical power substations and both underground and overhead distribution lines.
  • Create and review essential diagrams and documents, including one‑line diagrams, relaying diagrams, control schematics, grounding plans, site plans, and construction specifications.
  • Ensure adherence to the National Electrical Safety Code and the National Electrical Code for all crafted designs.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team to deliver high‑quality, coordinated construction documents.
  • Engage in the expansion of the overhead distribution practice, benefiting from mentorship opportunities and long‑term career growth.

Position Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position is starting at $80,000 - $96,000 annually, based on experience.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or higher.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, especially in substation or overhead and underground distribution line design.
  • Remote work may be considered with 7 or more years of experience.
  • Solid understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code and the National Electrical Code.
  • Professional Engineer licensure (or actively pursuing licensure) in the state relevant to the Cushing Terrell office.
  • Intermediate proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.
  • Capacity to design a substation or power distribution system independently for small to medium‑sized projects.
  • Strong knowledge of the components involved in substation and distribution systems, including circuit breakers, transformers, switches, ground grid systems, and more.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to create quality construction documents.
  • Meticulous attention to quality control and ability to address design issues promptly.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with overhead distribution line design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with BIM software and distribution software is advantageous.

Position Responsibilities
  • Consult with clients to identify functional requirements for new or renovated systems, providing information on design, specifications, estimated costs, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines to formulate preliminary concepts and drawings.
  • Prepare plans, sections, and details under the guidance of the Project Engineer or perform as the Project Engineer.
  • Apply knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code during the production of engineering calculations, design drawings, and specifications.
  • Implement the National Electrical Code in tasks, including wire sizing, conduit specifications, and clearance requirements, as part of engineering calculations and design documentation.
  • Create one‑line diagrams, metering and relaying diagrams, control schematics, grounding plans, physical plans, and construction specifications.

Things to Note

Compensation will be determined based on experience, licensure, location, proficiency level, and other job‑related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
