Responsibilities- Overall project management of engineering systems construction and alteration projects, including mechanical systems, equipment, energy management, and building automation.
- Coordination with agencies (Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, state agencies), architects, engineers, contractors, university departments, and facilities staff.
- Initiate projects, develop scope of work, perform cost estimate reviews, manage competitive bidding, negotiate with contractors, control costs, schedule work, and coordinate task sequencing.
- Conduct work inspections, ensure compliance with project requirements, monitor progress, and collaborate with trades, suppliers, and end users.
- Prepare project status reports, review payment requests, and manage change orders.
- Oversee project closeout: final inspections, ensure contractor completion of all tasks, verify accurate record drawings and operation‑maintenance manuals, and conduct post‑occupancy interviews.
- Serve as a mechanical/HVAC technical representative to other project managers, review design drawings and specifications, and report design issues.
- Assist in updating mechanical portions of university construction standards and develop engineering requirements for new buildings or major renovations.
- Provide on‑site technical expertise during construction and commissioning of HVAC equipment.
- Report contract deficiencies, maintain knowledge of applicable codes, and submit required reports to state agencies.
- Support divisional LEAN continuous improvement, sustainability, and customer service initiatives.
- 5 years of experience in the installation or commissioning of building mechanical systems with a licensed contractor.
- 5 years of experience in project management with an engineering firm or mechanical contractor, facility‑owner representative, or military.
- Associate or higher degree in engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of project‑management experience (alternative to experience requirement).
- Valid driver’s license and compliance with the university’s MVR policy.
- Sound knowledge of project budgets, schedules, and management duties.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform under pressure in both public contact and internal department capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineering licensure in the state of Ohio.
- Professional registration in Ohio.
- Background check required.
