Position Summary
The Process Engineer plays a key technical role in the planning, evaluation, and design of water and wastewater treatment facilities. This position supports process modeling, treatment optimization, equipment selection, pilot testing, and development of detailed design documents. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineers and project managers, the Process Engineer ensures high-quality, cost-effective solutions that meet regulatory requirements, operational needs, and client expectations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical fundamentals, curiosity, and the desire to grow into a future technical leader within our Water practice.
EssentialJob Functions
- Supports the process design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including coagulation/filtration, biological treatment, disinfection, residuals handling, advanced treatment, and emerging contaminant removal (e.g., PFAS, GAC, IX).
- Prepares and reviews calculations, technical memoranda, process flow diagrams, hydraulic profiles, design criteria, equipment sizing, and design reports.
- Contributes to the development of construction drawings and specifications in collaboration with civil, mechanical, electrical, and I&C discipline teams.
- Performs process modeling and evaluation using industry-standard tools and data-driven methods.
- Participates in pilot studies, field investigations, facility assessments, and startup/test support.
- Coordinates with project managers, discipline leads, and clients to ensure technical alignment and timely delivery of project milestones.
- Provides quality review of deliverables to maintain Tetra Tech's standards for technical excellence.
- Supports proposal preparation, technical approach development, and level-of-effort estimates for new work pursuits.
- Mentors early-career staff by sharing knowledge, reviewing work, and fostering technical growth.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- 3 years of experience in water or wastewater process design, facility planning, or treatment system evaluation.
- Experience developing design calculations, process schematics, equipment sizing, and technical reports.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to drinking water and/or wastewater treatment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and manage priorities across multiple projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Sit, stand, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Walk on uneven terrain and navigate active construction sites safely.
- This position primarily operates in an office setting with hybrid flexibility.
- Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, or field locations may be required.
- Site visits may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction sites, and active infrastructure environments.
