We're partnering with a respected & employee-owned civil engineering firm in New Mexico that is expanding its transportation group across multiple offices. They're seeking a Transportation Engineer with strong roadway and highway design experience to support municipal, DOT, and regional infrastructure projects.
This position can be based in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, or Las Cruces - or performed remotely for the right candidate, with occasional travel as needed for project coordination.
Key Responsibilities- Execute roadway and highway geometric design, including horizontal/vertical alignments, corridors, and intersections.
- Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates (PS&E) for transportation projects.
- Develop design calculations, engineering reports, and technical documentation.
- Support traffic engineering tasks such as traffic control plans, signing/striping, or signal design based on experience.
- Coordinate with clients, subconsultants, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality project delivery.
- Participate in project scoping, scheduling, and quality control reviews.
- Assist with proposals and project pursuits when needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
- 4-10+ years of roadway, highway, or transportation engineering experience.
- PE license required - or the ability to obtain a New Mexico PE within 6-12 months (mandatory).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or Micro Station/Open Roads.
- Experience preparing construction documents for DOT or municipal agencies.
- Working knowledge of AASHTO, MUTCD, and applicable state DOT standards.
- Prior experience with NMDOT projects.
- Exposure to traffic engineering tasks such as modeling, capacity analysis, or signal timing.
- Experience with drainage design or hydraulic modeling tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
