Senior Engineer Embedded System Engineer

Responsibilities

• Embedded System Engineer to provide electronics support to firmware, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams for all HDD products.
• Provide firmware support. Collaborate with firmware development teams to ensure new hardware features are utilized completely and correctly. Work with the FW and HW design team to quickly resolve any electronic issues to keep product schedules on track, including developing Firmware solutions for hardware use cases. Provide manufacturing support by working with manufacturing teams to resolve electronic issues that may affect yield, quality, or shipments.
  
  Develop tools and data-mining strategies to monitor and assess failure trends in manufacturing. Provide customer support by collaborating with FAE and WWFA teams to ensure issues do not delay qualification or impact customer satisfaction, including mining customer data for failure trends.
• Staff Embedded System Engineers possess broad system-level knowledge and some subject-matter expertise in one or more areas of the design. They stay current with technical advances in their specialization and help set the direction for continuous improvement.
• Staff Engineers use methodical problem‑solving processes, are proficient with debug tools, and maintain the tools used in their area of expertise. They can independently solve complex problems in their domain.
• Staff Engineers achieve goals with limited direction and supervision, proactively providing status updates with clear and concise summaries of complex problems.

• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
• Experience with failure modes to triage system failures and use of tools such as Blink Codes, error logs (Show Stop/Debug Snapshots), Bus Traces, firmware Event Trace Logging (ETL), and debug PCBA design.
• Experience with high-speed signal guidelines of printed circuit boards and ability to identify potential signal integrity problems when reviewing schematics.
• Proficient in hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, bus analyzers, hardware embedded trace, test muxes, GHS Probe, and Serial Debugger.
• System-level knowledge of HDD with understanding of both firmware and hardware.

• Experience programming in C++.
• Ability to modify code for design-of-experiments.
• Ability to develop and maintain test scripts written in TCL and Python.
• Strong problem solving with practical knowledge of A3 and 8D methodologies.
• Strong communication skills, especially the ability to collaborate across engineering organizations, geographies, and cultures, and to provide clear and concise summaries of complex problems.

Salary Range: 94,.00

• Pay based on experience, education, qualifications, performance, contribution, location, shift, and organizational needs.
• The salary range applies to jobs performed in California, Colorado, or New York, or remote jobs that can be performed in those states.
• Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime pay and may qualify for shift differential pay.
• Eligibility for bonuses under WD’s Short Term Incentive Plan (STI Plan) or the Sales Incentive Plan (SIP), depending on role and performance.
• Eligibility for the annual Long-Term Incentive Program, which may include restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, subject to LTI plan eligibility.
