Market Operations Engineer​/Analyst

Job Summary

Engineering support for the wholesale electricity market in Texas. Monitors system conditions and market performance. Works closely with both internal and external stakeholders concerning issues related to the wholesale market construct within the ERCOT Protocols. Helps ensure consistency and stability of the market.

Acquires the skills and knowledge to provide engineering and analytical support for the wholesale market and grid operations. Prepares and validates models of the electric power systems. Applies principles of electricity market theory to understand market behavior and outcomes. Investigates methods for data analysis to develop improved analytical tools.

Monitors and analyzes the wholesale electricity market. Generates and maintains market reports per requests and protocols. Assists the management team and senior experts in providing technical assistance to PUCT, industry and stakeholder groups. Recommends, reviews and tests proposed changes to the ERCOT wholesale market systems and design. Under supervision, helps to ensure all wholesale market activities have been successfully completed per protocols and works closely with Market Participants to resolve issues concerning wholesale market and grid operations.

• Develop understanding and knowledge of competitive energy markets and trends
• Maintain knowledge of the wholesale market and ERCOT grid operations to support Market Participant business needs
• Anticipate and resolve issues within the ERCOT wholesale market and grid operations using power engineering knowledge
• Generate and maintain market reports per requests and protocols
• Assist the management team and senior experts in providing technical assistance to PUCT, industry and stakeholder groups
• Assist in addressing Market Participant questions pertaining to daily market and grid operations activities
• Attend stakeholder, industry, and PUCT meetings under the direction of the ERCOT management team
• Escalate issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager in a timely manner when necessary
• Develop strong working relationships with other internal departments
• Perform engineering studies using the ERCOT network models to analyze conditions and events on the system
• Test and validate changes to market applications
• Monitor and analyze the ERCOT wholesale market and recommend design/system modifications and enhancements as needed
• Propose and create new solutions for data acquisition and reporting
• Use judgment and provide remedies for Market Participant disputes within the ERCOT market
• Work independently and escalated issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager in a timely manner when necessary

• Engineer Level 1: 0 years of experience is required
• Engineer Level 2:
  Requires minimum 1 year job related work experience in excess of degree requirements
• Engineer Level 3:
  Requires minimum 3 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements
• Senior Level Engineer:
  Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience in excess of degree requirements

• Demonstrates proficient technical skills in SQL and/or SAS
• Experience with data analysis using Python

Bachelor's Degree:
Electrical Engineering or related field (Required) or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required.

Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at minimum 2 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs determined by management. On‑site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs. Remote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence. Employees may opt to work on‑site more than required or 100% of the time.

Expected Salary Range: $87,000 - $120,000
