b19 is partnering with an established power engineering company, looking to hire an experienced Electrical Distribution Engineer to execute overhead & underground line design projects for large Midwest electric utilities.

This is a remote position, but candidates must be based in or near the Chicago area to support local projects and occasional site visits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop overhead and underground electric distribution systems (typically 4kV–35kV)
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Perform pole loading, voltage drop, and fault current calculations
  • Support system improvements, reliability upgrades, and new service connections
  • Collaborate with project managers, field crews, and utility clients
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., NESC, utility-specific guidelines)
  • Conduct site visits and field assessments as needed
  • Review and approve design packages for accuracy and quality
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution design
  • Strong experience with both overhead and underground systems
  • Proficiency with design software such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc, AutoCAD, Micro Station
  • Knowledge of industry standards including NESC and utility practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure
  • Experience working with Midwest-based utilities
  • Knowledge of GIS platforms and utility asset management systems
  • Experience supporting storm hardening or grid modernization projects
