POWER is a rapidly growing, certified women-owned engineering consulting firm delivering premium power delivery and transmission engineering services to major utility clients across the U.S. Our team specializes in high-voltage transmission line design (69kV-500kV), supporting critical infrastructure projects that strengthen grid reliability and modernize the electric system.
We're hiring a Transmission Line Project Engineer to lead the technical execution of high-voltage transmission line projects from concept through construction. This role blends hands‑on transmission design with project engineering leadership, making it ideal for an experienced engineer ready to take ownership of project deliverables while working directly with utility clients. This role is ideal for engineers ready to step into a technical leadership position and take full ownership of transmission line design, engineering decisions, and project delivery.
WhatYou’ll Own
- Technical execution and design strategy for high-voltage transmission line design projects (69kV-500kV)
- Full technical ownership of engineering deliverables, calculations, and design packages
- Coordination with project managers, utility clients, and field teams to drive project outcomes
- Engineering decisions related to routing, structure spotting, and design optimization
- Lead end-to-end design for complex transmission line rebuilds or green fields including multi-circuit configurations, constrained ROW conditions, and critical crossings for overhead transmission systems
- Serve as a technical lead responsible for engineering decisions, design assumptions and client coordination
- Direct client‑facing role with utility stakeholders, including participating in design reviews, technical discussions, and other various project coordination efforts
- Perform and oversee PLS‑CADD modeling, including structure spotting, routing decisions, sag‑tension analysis, clearance calculations, and constructability reviews for complex transmission line rebuilds and upgrades
- Lead development and manage specifications for transmission line construction, hardware selection, and materials procurement, ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, bill of materials, and construction packages
- Apply and interpret NESC, ASCE-7, ACI, IEEE, ANSI standards across all project phases
- Coordinate with utility clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within scope and budget
- Provide engineering support during construction, resolving field issues and ensuring constructability
- Lead QA/QC reviews of engineering deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Mentor junior engineers and support team development
- Support project planning, cost estimating, and proposal development for utility capital projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (ABET‑accredited preferred)
- 8+ years of transmission line design and project engineering experience
- Strong experience leading high‑voltage transmission projects (69kV-500kV)
- Advanced proficiency with PLS‑CADD, including sag‑tension, clearance, structure spotting, and structure analysis with support from PLS‑POLE, PLS‑TOWER and/or other related tools
- Strong knowledge of NESC, ASCE-7, ANSI, ACI, AISC, and IEEE with working familiarity in NERC, FERC, OSHA, AWC‑NDS, AWS and IBC.
- Proven ability to lead technical project execution and coordinate cross‑functional teams
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with utility clients in a remote environment
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain)
- Experience supporting utility capital projects
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading small design teams
- Familiarity with PLS‑CADD Lite, SAG
