Position Overview

We are adding an Environmental Manager to lead and oversee environmental management practices and permitting compliance for construction projects in the Midwest region of the United States and Canada. This role ensures environmental regulations are followed and sustainability goals are met, minimizing ecological footprints while keeping projects compliant and efficient.

Location

Based in either the Omaha, Nebraska or Lenexa, Kansas office, with up to 35% travel to construction project locations across the Midwest US and Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the Midwest US/Canada, leading environmental compliance and permitting for construction operations.
  • Identify, assess, and reduce environmental risks to the company.
  • Update environmental plans.
  • Oversee field inspections and monitoring of environmental aspects such as water quality, underwater noise, erosion, sediment control, and surrounding areas.
  • Identify wetlands and sensitive environmental areas for protection and fencing before construction activities.
  • Maintain project data tracking requirements and report on environmental project status.
  • Monitor, forecast, and communicate environmental costs at the project level.
  • Develop and conduct environmental protection and awareness training for staff at all levels.
  • Act as the principal technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with relevant crews on work locations, material needs, quantities, and invoices.
  • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings, minimizing adverse effects to the natural environment and local communities while ensuring all necessary permits are in place.
  • Prepare project and company-required reports, communicating environmental risks to project management.
  • Attend field visits with clients and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Liaise with clients, providing design information, schedule details, quantities, and ensuring awareness of any unanticipated discoveries or critical permitting and compliance issues.
Qualifications
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in an environmental or engineering‑related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience leading environmental compliance for large-scale construction projects, performing functions as outlined above; experience with EPC projects is preferred.
  • Certifications in stormwater management, corrosion and sediment control, remediation, and/or a Qualified Environmental Professional designation are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and initiative.

  • Able to travel as necessary to project sites, clients, and company offices.
