Position: Control Room Operator (CRO) / Remote Operating Center (ROC) at NAES Corporation Tracy, CA

Overview

Control Room Operator (CRO) at NAES Corporation’s Remote Operating Center (ROC) in Tracy, CA. The role remotely operates and monitors a growing fleet of LM6000 and FT8 gas turbines, Peaker plants, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites, responding to dispatch instructions and coordinating with on‑site personnel to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, start, stop, and monitor LM6000 and FT8 gas turbines across remote Peaker and BESS sites.
  • Manage BESS charge/discharge cycles, monitor battery state of charge, and respond to grid signals such as frequency regulation and voltage support.
  • Adjust system parameters and react to changing operational needs to ensure optimal plant performance.
  • Execute dispatch commands from electrical, steam, and fuel dispatchers in accordance with load demands and market signals.
  • Follow standardized operating procedures and decision‑making frameworks to maintain consistent operations.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Analyze system trends and alarms, diagnose root causes, and follow escalation procedures.
  • Document plant operating conditions, equipment status, alarms, and upsets in the official Operating Log.
  • Dispatch and direct on‑call site personnel for remote startups or incidents that require local intervention.
  • Provide clear updates to ROC teammates, site personnel, and management regarding plant conditions and actions.
  • Support process improvements, assist with documentation, and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Advance through the ROC training program, complete the ROC Control Room Operator qualification card, and participate in cross‑training or rotation assignments.
  • Travel to remote Peaker and BESS facilities as needed for training, inspections, or operational support.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate’s degree in power plant technology or related field preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience as a Control Room Operator or in a similar role within power generation or industrial facilities.
  • Experience operating simple‑cycle large‑frame gas turbine plants and familiarity with LM2500, LM5000, LM6000, FT4/FT8, Alstom, Westinghouse, and related systems.
  • Strong understanding of turbine generators, combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators, and plant operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of combustion and steam turbine operations, closed‑system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and plant parameter recording.
  • Experience with water chemistry control, water analysis, treatment facility operations, and chemical handling.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to guide and develop team members.
  • Proficient in enforcing safety and environmental regulations and ensuring team compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license.
Compensation

Base pay ranging from $38.99 to $58.89 per hour, plus an annual performance bonus.

Work Schedule

Rotating 12‑hour shifts with four days on followed by four days off, alternating day and night shifts. The role may require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional on‑call status.

Physical Requirements & Safety
  • Primarily office‑based with extended computer work; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel to power plants may involve standing, climbing stairs, working at elevated platforms, confined spaces, and exposure to hazardous materials, extreme temperatures, heat, noise, and varied weather.
  • Use of protective equipment (hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection) is required; strict smoking restrictions apply.
  • Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program, including physical exam, drug screening, and post‑employment screening.
