Job Summary:
The Department has jurisdiction over approximately 250 dams in the State of Arizona. The Department is seeking an engineer to provide engineering support associated with dam safety projects. The selected candidate will act as a member of a group of registered professional engineers and non-registered professionals that provides regulatory oversight for jurisdictional dams in the State. The primary focus of this position is to provide support for hydrologic and hydraulic engineering efforts associated with dam safety projects.
In addition, this individual will also assist the team with general civil engineering design and reviews, construction management, and dam safety inspection.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. A minimum of two days on-site at the ADWR office per week is required.

Job Duties:
The candidate will undertake independent analyses of the various aspects of dam safety requiring special knowledge and engineering practices and procedures related to dams.
The candidate will represent the agency in meetings with other agencies, dam designers (consultants), dam owners and contractors. This position may also serve as an expert witness, subject matter expert, or provide technical assistance at formal hearings as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following as related to dam safety/engineering:
* Hydrology & Hydraulics
* Geotechnical engineering analyses and soil mechanics.
* Civil engineering and design
* Structural engineering and design
* Construction oversight
* GIS Platforms
Skill in:
* Software - one or more suites such as Flo2D, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 2D
* Strong technical writing and verbal communication are critical for this position
* MS Word, Excel, and Power Point
Ability to:
* Work independently but also enjoy working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team,
* Organize time, workload, and priorities.
* Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently is desirable
* Analyze and interpret a wide variety of engineering data related to dams
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff, governmental officials, consultants and the general public.
* Selective Preference(s):
* B.S. in Civil Engineering
* Prefer M.S. or Ph.D in Civil/Geotechnical, Water Resources, Geological, or Structural Engineering
* 5+ years of professional engineering experience, including design, construction, and observation of earthwork constructions
* Dam safety inspections
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering or closely related field of engineering in the State of Arizona; OR eligibility for reciprocity in the State of Arizona within six (6) months of start of employment with the Department is required.
This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.
