Program Overview
ERCOT’s Grid & Market Solutions (GMS) Development Program (GDP) is a 12–16 month program designed to provide entry level and early career professionals with the skills necessary to be successful Power System and Computer Engineers. The program is based in the Grid & Market Solutions Department and offers experience in day‑to‑day work and instruction in the fundamentals of electric power systems engineering, grid and market applications, software programming, and IT service and operations management.
Job Duties- Provide engineering support for a portfolio of Grid applications, including Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Frequency Control, Dynamic Stability Analysis, Load Forecasting, and Operator Training Simulator (OTS).
- Provide engineering support for a portfolio of Market applications, including Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED), Day‑Ahead Market (DAM), Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC), Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR), and QSE Training Simulator.
- Design, code, test, validate, and implement modifications to Grid and Market applications while adhering to Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.
- Install, configure, and support leading grid and market products from global vendors such as GE, Hitachi, Siemens, Aveva, among others.
- Fundamentals of Grid and Market Solutions that help run the Texas Power Grid and Wholesale Markets.
- Energy Management System (EMS) and Market Management System (MMS).
- Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA), IT services and operations management.
- Code utilizing programming languages and tools such as Angular, JavaScript, C++, Python, Shell Scripting, PL/SQL, Java, XML, APIs.
- Support applications on Windows/Linux operating systems.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), database support on SQL Server and Oracle, and business intelligence and analytics tools.

No minimum work experience required beyond degree requirements.
Preferred ExperiencePrevious internship in the power industry or power‑related project coursework in Power Systems.
Education- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field (required). Focus or coursework in Power Systems highly preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (major in Power Systems preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Employees will be required to be on‑site in Taylor, TX at a minimum of 2 days per week, or more, as needed. Remote work is required to be performed from a Texas residence. Employees may opt to work on‑site more than required or 100% of the time. Work arrangements are subject to business needs and may change accordingly.
