The role - what you'll do
Barr is seeking a water resources engineer to join our Minneapolis team. In this role, you will work on a diverse range of projects related to hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, civil engineering, water resources planning and design, and related technical tasks. Assignments may include stormwater management planning, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, open channel and pipe flow analysis and design, and the design of water control and stormwater treatment structures.
Field assignments may include construction observation, stormwater infrastructure assessment, collection of hydrologic and water-quality data, and materials testing. The position also involves preparing plans and specifications, coordinating with permitting agencies and public officials, GIS and CADD tasks, report writing, and spreadsheet development. The work may occasionally require short-term, out-of-town travel.
A successful candidate will demonstrate strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a part of a project team, and flexibility and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
Your impact - key responsibilities
* Technical knowledge: support a wide range of water resources engineering activities, including water quality data collection, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and design support for stormwater, open channel and pipe flow, and conveyance systems.
* Project support: prepare plans and technical specifications. Contribute to project report writing.
* Fieldwork: participate in site visits and inspections to observe construction activities and best ensure compliance with design intent.
* Team collaboration: work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers while developing your skillset in a professional consulting environment.
About the opportunity
* Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
* Work environment: ability to work in locations that include rough terrain typical of construction, manufacturing, or rural outdoor sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
About you - required core competencies
* Education:
bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related engineering degree with an emphasis on water resources.
* Experience:
minimum of 3 years of experience in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering.
* Experience with one or more of the following: hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, open channel and pipe flow, lake and stream water-quality issues, and earthwork and grading plans
* Software: experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, CADD, or GIS software.
* Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful additional experience (not required)
* Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related degree with an emphasis on water resources.
* Project design experience (e.g., stormwater management facility design and site design), including preparation of plans and specifications.
* Exposure to GIS, CADD, or other relevant programs.
Compensation:
Anticipated range of $75,000-$85,000/year. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
