Salary Range: $130K to 170K - Commensurate (dependent on experience, education, and qualifications)

Your Role:
The Staff Power System Studies Engineering Specialist is a recognized technical expert responsible for leading complex design-related studies that support transmission line, substation, and renewable generation projects. The position requires strong subject‑matter expertise in power system studies, with electromagnetic transient (EMT) analysis and PSCAD experience preferred, though other relevant specialties or equivalent modeling tools are also acceptable.
Operating with a high level of autonomy, the Staff Power Systems Engineering Specialist will serve as a primary technical resource for both internal teams and external clients. This individual will exercise advanced engineering judgment, establish study methodologies, define best practices, and drive technical innovation in Ampirical's growing Power System Studies practice. This engineer will directly influence design decisions, provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers at all levels, develop and improve study workflows, and enhance Ampirical's analytical capabilities and industry presence.
Staff Power System Studies Engineering Specialist
What You'll Do:
* Lead and perform complex engineering studies for transmission line, substation, and renewable generation projects.
* Develop study reports with clear narratives, rigorous analysis, and actionable recommendations.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, helping shape expectations and ensuring alignment with deliverables.
* Resolve complex and novel technical challenges through expert engineering judgment and advanced power system knowledge.
* Lead coordination across multiple projects involving cross‑departmental engineering teams.
* Provide quality control for deliverables and serve as a reviewer for high-risk or high-visibility study deliverables.
* Mentor engineers across multiple experience levels and disciplines.
* Define analytical methodologies and refine modeling standards for the studies team.
* Oversee development of advanced data processing workflows, templates, and automation tools that increase speed, consistency, and quality across the team.
* Assist with ensuring that modeling and validation methods are optimal across projects.
* Contribute to proposal development, including scopes of work, cost estimates, and technical approach.
* Contribute to the development of calculation workbooks, templates, internal standards, and knowledge-management repositories.
* Guide decisions on software adoption and integration strategies.
* Participate in industry committees and conferences to maintain technical expertise and enhance Ampirical's industry presence
What You Bring
Education:
* Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited university
* OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited university
* OR PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited university
