Position Summary
The Nevada Department of Transportation is hiring for a Professional Engineer located in Elko, NV on Crew 301. This position is responsible for managing assigned construction and district projects and works alongside the crew manager, traffic engineer, and other team members. It collaborates with various NDOT Divisions and manages district-level contracts, agreements, stormwater compliance, roadway operations, and stewardship projects from application through final acceptance.
The role requires strong technical skills, sound independent judgment, and a solid understanding of regulatory requirements.
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. The position does not offer remote work options and is on-site. The Department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa.
LicensureAll positions in this series require licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Current licensure as a P.E. is mandatory.
Responsibilities- Plan, organize, schedule and oversee program/project activities by coordinating with other sections, divisions, and agencies to complete assignments on schedule and under budget.
- Prepare reports, letters, memos, agreements, forms and notes to communicate information; review similar documents prepared by staff for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations, policy and industry best practices.
- Compile and present complex engineering information to management in briefing meetings.
- Attend public meetings and hearings to provide technical expertise to the public and other entities.
- Write, review, negotiate and secure agreements with consultants and/or contractors and coordinate their activities as required.
- Under general direction, perform professional engineering functions requiring judgment in the analysis of complex data and the application of recognized engineering concepts and principles; analyze and resolve difficult problems impacting daily operations, make recommendations, and participate in the development of new policies, procedures and organizational services.

- Complete workload within established time frames and adapt to changes in workload and priorities quickly
- Work independently with minimal direction and set priorities accurately reflecting relative importance of job responsibilities
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, management, outside entities and the public
- Operate a personal computer and engineering software
- Review and approve the work of others
