Senior Advanced Field Service Engineer – UOP, Honeywell

UOP, a Honeywell company headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois, is a leading international licensor of processing technology and supplier of engineering services for the global refining, gas processing and petrochemical industries. As a Senior Advanced Field Service Engineer, you will inspect the mechanical integrity of process equipment that plays a critical safety, reliability and compliance role in refineries, petrochemical plants and fabrication shops across the United States and worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Visit customer refineries, chemical plants or fabrication shops to assess the mechanical integrity of process equipment and verify conformance to Honeywell UOP, customer and code specifications.
  • Perform physical inspections that may involve climbing, crawling and walking on pressure vessels, storage tanks and piping, either at the process plant or in fabrication shops.
  • During plant turnarounds, assess equipment condition, issue repair recommendations, verify repair completion, and forecast future repairs or replacement of equipment.
  • Conduct shop inspections during all stages of fabrication to ensure compliance with UOP Standard Specifications, customer requirements, engineering specifications and all applicable industry codes.
  • Write detailed inspection reports using UOP’s computer‑generated forms and present results to customers at meetings.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • A Mechanical Engineering degree or API‑510 Pressure Vessel Inspector certification is required.
  • At least 5 years of direct experience with refinery or chemical plant inspection, maintenance turnarounds or shutdowns.
  • At least 5 years of experience applying principles of corrosion, metallurgy, materials of construction, welding procedures, refractory selection and application procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other related engineering degrees considered.
  • Basic understanding of UOP refining & petrochemical processes and familiarity with TEMA, ASME, API, ASTM, AWS and AISI codes.
  • Additional internationally recognized certifications that would be a plus:
  • API 570 Piping Inspector
  • API 653 Above Ground Storage Tank Inspector
  • API 571 Corrosion and Materials Professional
  • API 577 Welding Inspection and Metallurgy Professional
  • API 580 Risk Based Inspection Professional
  • API 936 Refractory Quality Control Professional
  • AWS CWI Certified Welding Inspector
  • NBIC National Board Inspection Code (Fired and Un‑Fired Pressure Vessels & Boilers)
Travel and Work Arrangement

This position requires extensive travel throughout the United States and internationally. Assignments typically last from 1 to 6 weeks, with no return home during that time. Work hours during an assignment are typically six days per week, 10 hours per day, though 12‑hour days and seven‑day weeks are possible. Night shifts and holiday coverage may also be required. As an hourly role, any time worked over 40 hours is paid at 1.5×, double time on Sundays and holidays.

Salary

The annual base salary range for this position is $92,000 – $116,000 in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Connecticut and Hawaii; and $116,000 – $133,000 in Washington and most major metropolitan areas in New York & California. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer.
