Job Summary

In this role you will plan, coordinate and perform structural engineering tasks to produce design and estimates for projects within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit. You will develop, evaluate, coordinate or modify design, drawings, specifications and requisitions for precast concrete superstructure and associated components and other structural works under the supervision of an Engineering Group Supervisor.

Major Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group, including the preparation of original designs, layouts, details, drawings and specifications for buildings, structures and components.
  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate civil/structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
  • Design structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
  • Determine the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
  • Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, primarily for precast concrete.
  • Coordinate design between the Home office engineers and subcontractors performing design of precast concrete elements.
  • Analyze problems with conflicting design requirements, sketch ideas, and possible solutions.
  • Analyze and report on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, or prepare equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations.
  • Prepare procurement and subcontract requisition documents and perform associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations.
  • Provide assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project civil/structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • A professional engineering license is highly preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Career-level position within field.
  • Considered highly skilled and proficient in precast concrete design.
  • Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, capable of resolving a wide range of issues in creative ways.
