Lilly, a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, seeks a Packaging Engineer to support the Dry External Manufacturing (DRY-EM) organization. The role focuses on ensuring printed packaging materials (PPMs) used by contract manufacturers meet both line and Lilly standards.
Responsibilities- Manage layout templates, ensuring artwork development aligns with technical requirements and packaging line functions.
- Maintain BLUE metadata for layouts and integrate it with other PPM components in the system.
- Own the Qualified Format List (QFL), coordinating artworks development with regional groups.
- Collaborate with Global Packaging during initial CM engagement to identify or develop layouts needed for timely artwork creation.
- Participate in testing activities and qualifications at contract manufacturers.
- Own Site Technical Changes (STCs) requested by CMs, coordinating PPM changes with global packaging, regulatory, and PPD teams.
- Work closely with Packaging Coordinator and Specification Coordinator to ensure accurate PPM development.
- Assist in materials specifications management alongside the Specification Coordinator.
- Serve on the Specifications Change Review Board (sCRB), proposing changes to global layouts when necessary.
- Maintain a holistic view of all ongoing PPM projects within DRY-EM.
- Lead or support packaging investigations and projects, including digital transformation initiatives as part of continuous improvement.
- Technical roles at contract manufacturers.
- JPTs.
- Regulatory groups.
- EU‑PPD and US‑PPD teams.
- Global Packaging group.
- QA groups.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, or a related field with experience in PPM management or a similar technical background.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience with printed packaging materials or packaging in the pharmaceutical sector.
- Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Lilly does not provide visa or work‑authorization sponsorship for this role.
- Fluent English.
- Willingness to travel up to 40%.
- Technical approach and experience in packaging engineering or TSMS within a packaging plant, ideally in dry products.
This role is located onsite in Indianapolis, IN and is not approved for fully remote work. Employees may work from home up to four days per month.
Compensation and BenefitsActual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location, with an anticipated salary range of $65,250 to $145,200. Full‑time employees may also be eligible for a company bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, including a 401(k) plan, pension, vacation, medical, dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, and other well‑being benefits.
