Responsibilities
  • Administer and manage the Engineering Division's in-house design team and the administrative team.
  • Oversee the ongoing development and oversight of the 5‑year CIP document.
  • Provide direction and technical guidance to staff design engineers, surveyors, project managers, engineering technicians and support staff.
  • Coordinate design services for the City’s Capital Improvement Program.
  • Attend the Design Advisory Committee and Planning Commission as the division representative.
  • Participate in professional group meetings and stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the engineering and maintenance field.
  • Develop and maintain the City’s Public Works Engineering Procedures Manual.
  • Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with City staff and external stakeholders.
  • Directly manage some of the more complex CIP projects.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coordinate training, and implement hiring, discipline and termination procedures for supervising staff.
  • Manage and oversee activities of complex infrastructure improvement projects, including design and construction services, and monitor compliance with design standards, policies, codes and regulations.
  • Serve as primary liaison and technical expert for assigned engineering projects; consult with architects, engineers, developers, consultants and outside agencies; review project studies, specifications, drawings and other technical documents; perform job site inspections as needed.
  • Provide project management and scheduling of resources; administer assigned budgets and contracts; monitor project progress and schedules; review issues; perform complex engineering calculations; research and analyze information; recommend alternative project solutions; implement solutions.
  • Attend, facilitate and present at meetings; prepare and oversee the development and delivery of reports, proposals, contracts, plans, specifications, approval conditions and other technical engineering documents.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Licensing and Certifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) Registration.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
Work Schedule

The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and alternating Fridays 8:00 am‑5:00 pm. The standard work environment varies depending on assignment but is typically either primarily an office setting or out in the field. The City does not offer hybrid or remote work.

Legal Requirement
