Job Title:

Piping Designer

Job Description

The Piping Designer creates and develops complex piping designs that align with industry best practices, applicable codes and standards, and specific client requirements. This role applies standard drafting techniques to generate and interpret detailed drawings, ensuring all company design standards and procedures are consistently followed. The Piping Designer supports assigned projects from concept through completion by producing accurate 2D and 3D piping layouts and collaborating closely with internal teams and external suppliers.

Responsibilities

+ Coordinate daily work tasks and design activities with the Piping Discipline Manager to align with project objectives and schedules.

+ Collect and prepare technical data and reference information needed to develop piping designs and detail drawings, including orthographic views, isometrics, and related documentation.

+ Perform CAD design of basic equipment layouts and piping routings that comply with applicable codes, standards, and specific client requirements.

+ Develop and maintain 2D and 3D piping models using AutoCAD and Autodesk Plant 3D to accurately represent process piping and associated equipment.

+ Generate and update orthographic drawings, isometric drawings, and bills of materials to support procurement, fabrication, and construction activities.

+ Interact with other internal departments, such as civil, mechanical, and process, to obtain necessary information and ensure coordinated designs.

+ Collaborate with suppliers and external partners to gather pertinent technical data and ensure compatibility of piping components and equipment.

+ Assist with field work by checking installations, verifying that constructed piping systems match the design, and supporting problem-solving activities as issues arise.

+ Update the 3D piping model and associated drawings based on field findings, design changes, and scope adjustments.

+ Participate in intra-disciplinary meetings as requested by the Piping Discipline Manager or Project Manager to review design progress, resolve issues, and coordinate deliverables.

+ Communicate with internal resources to clearly convey project design intent and promptly identify and document scope changes.

+ Ensure that all work products adhere to established quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards and company design practices.

Essential Skills

+ Approximately 5 years of relevant piping design experience, preferably in process piping.

+ Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent relevant technical education.

+ Proficiency in 2D piping design using AutoCAD.

+

Experience with 3D CAD piping design using Autodesk Plant 3D.

+ Ability to develop equipment layouts and overall facility layouts in a CAD environment.

+ Basic experience in preparing 3D piping models for process and mechanical systems.

+ Ability to produce orthographic drawings, isometric drawings, and detailed bills of materials.

+ Understanding of piping design principles, process piping systems, and related mechanical and civil interfaces.

+ Ability to interpret and generate P& (piping and instrumentation diagrams).

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to following established design standards and QA/QC procedures.

+ Effective communication skills to interact with internal teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders.

+ Ability to support field verification and problem-solving activities related to piping installations.

+

Experience with process piping design in industrial or similar facilities.

+ Familiarity with civil and mechanical aspects that interface with piping systems.

+ Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary project teams.

+ Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and design deliverables concurrently.

+ Comfort working with both 2D and 3D design tools in a project environment.

Work Environment

This role offers a flexible work environment that includes office-based and remote work options, depending on project needs and team coordination requirements. You will work primarily with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Plant 3D in a professional engineering and design setting, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and participating in virtual and in-person meetings as needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $50.00/hr.
