Overview
Join a highly respected, employee-owned engineering firm known for delivering large-scale utility and infrastructure projects nationwide. This role plays a key part in supporting distribution and resiliency programs, with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and consistency across design deliverables.
As a Distribution Design Engineer, you'll take on a QA/QC-focused position, helping ensure that distribution designs meet industry standards, client expectations, and construction requirements-particularly across complex, high-volume programs.
What You'll Be Doing
* Perform detailed QA/QC reviews of distribution design packages to ensure accuracy and completeness
* Evaluate designs for compliance with standards, specifications, and real-world construction practices
* Support both overhead and underground distribution projects, including new builds, rebuilds, and resiliency initiatives
* Identify discrepancies and provide clear feedback to resolve issues before client submission
* Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to maintain quality and schedule alignment
* Contribute to resiliency efforts focused on system reliability, storm hardening, and grid modernization
* Mentor junior team members and share best practices related to QA/QC and design standards
* Participate in client coordination efforts and internal quality audits as needed
What They're Looking For
* 5+ years of experience in distribution engineering, with a strong focus on QA/QC or design review
* Experience supporting resiliency or grid modernization programs
* Solid understanding of distribution standards, construction units, and design workflows
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify risk and inconsistencies in design packages
* Prior experience in a lead, reviewer, or quality-focused engineering role
Additional Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent hands-on utility experience)
* Experience managing or supporting multiple projects or clients simultaneously
* Familiarity with DDS (Distribution Design Studio) is strongly preferred

Work Environment
This position is primarily based out of the Houston office with a standard 8-5 schedule and a 9/80 option (every other Friday off once eligible). The role offers minimal travel, strong team collaboration, and a structured yet flexible environment-with a limited number of remote work days available throughout the year.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $48.00/hr.
