Dev Ops Cloud Architect, Digital Engineering Solutions (Remote)

CDM Smith is seeking a Dev Ops Cloud Architect to join our Digital Engineering Solutions team. This individual will be part of the Development group within the Digital Engineering Solutions team, helping design and implementation of cloud-based solutions facilitates CI/CD practices, utilizing infrastructure as code (IaC) tools and ensuring that software development and operations teams work collaboratively. This individual must showcase exceptional abilities in implementing cloud technology solutions for AEC initiatives that involve cutting‑edge technologies.

As a member of the Digital Engineering Solutions team, the Development group will also engage in research and development and provide guidance and oversight to the AEC practices at CDM Smith, engaging in new product research, testing, and the incubation of innovative ideas that arise from around the company. The ideal candidate should possess an extensive background in cloud architecture, that includes security, scaling, integration, and application migration, along with a commitment to continuous advancement and interest that drives measurable results.

Responsibilities
  • A thorough understanding of cloud technologies, including design patterns, planning, configuration, and resource management in Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms.
  • Develop Dev Sec Ops  culture implementation, integration, pipeline automation as well as high- and low-level architectural analysis. Mentor development teams on pipeline best practices.
  • Design and develop the infrastructure and CI/CD pipeline for a range of projects in a various environment in an agile way.
  • Spearhead infrastructure automation using Bicep, ARM templates, and scripting languages (Power Shell), promoting Infrastructure as Code (IaC) as a core team capability.
  • Drive adoption of infrastructure as code practices to create reusable solution patterns and templates.
  • Develop and implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems that ensure the performance and health of the system.
  • Establish standards and guidelines across cloud platforms in accordance with industry standards.
  • Establish guidelines for Azure Active Directory (AAD), RBAC, IAM configuring role assignments, conditional access, and identity management.
  • Incorporate security best practices into cloud architecture and ensure compliance with appropriate industry standards.
  • Analyze the cloud service’s business needs, investigate the necessary framework, design and implement enterprise‑class cloud service providing secure, scalable, and efficient solutions.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary research on complex systems including serverless, endpoints, networks, disaster recovery management system and hardware/software.
  • Collaborate with the IT operations, security and other architect teams to ensure that best practices are followed.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with non‑technical cross‑functional teams.
  • Implement cost‑saving measures and analyze resource utilization to optimize cloud costs.
  • Work with multicultural teams across different time zones.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 8 years of relevant experience. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft Certified:
    Azure Solutions Architect Expert AZ‑304/AZ‑500
    highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in software development, engineering, or a related specialization highly preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Azure, with a strong foundation in system and solution design.
  • Proficient at creating high and low‑level architectural diagrams for cloud environments to share with enterprise IT teams.
  • Working experience in the agile deployment of Azure resources in landing zones using Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of Git and version control systems, as well as the ability to configure CICD pipelines using Azure Dev Ops.
  • Experience in recommending cost‑effective Azure services depending on project requirements while maintaining performance.
