We are seeking an experienced systems engineer to support space payload design, development, and delivery activities for multiple programs. The selected candidate will work as part of a multi‑project leadership team, which will be responsible for shaping the future of space remote sensing as we transition to new design concepts and technical refresh of existing designs.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Work individually and as a team to develop space system design and architecture concepts, leading to system design
• Application of space system engineering knowledge to influence remote sensing payload design
• Derivation and allocation of system requirements (functional, performance, interfaces) for high‑reliability remote sensing systems
• Application of systems engineering concepts to plan, analyze, organize, and integrate system capabilities to achieve a mission need for remote sensing systems

Significant emphasis will be on integration across teams, requiring coordination with internal and external collaborators.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

$117,500 - $235,700

* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q

The ideal R&D S&E, Systems Engineering candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

• Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
• Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO).
• Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
