Talascend is currently seeking a Principal Seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer for a remote, long-term contract opportunity.
OVERVIEW:
The Principal Seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessment (SPRA) Engineer reports directly to the Integrated Plant and Structures (IPS) Seismic Integration Manager. The role involves working as part of the Natrium Seismic Integration Team, providing oversight to the Risk Assessment team, and being responsible for the SPRA and severe accident analysis for the Natrium reactor design. The engineer will direct, oversee, and approve SPRA work products, coordinating with the Internal Events PRA team, deterministic safety analysis, fragility, and other engineering disciplines to ensure a reliable and safe plant under a risk-informed, performance-based licensing framework.
Additional activities include developing SPRA methodologies and models to support seismic design and licensing, supporting risk integration with design processes, evaluating seismic-induced fire and flood sequences, participating in hazard analysis groups and PIRT exercises, and supporting SSC classification, LBE selection, and DID evaluations. Effective communication skills and collaboration across engineering disciplines are essential.
This position requires knowledge of SPRA principles, familiarity with the ASME/ANS PRA standard, and the Licensing Modernization Project (LMP). Experience with sodium fast reactor technology is preferred but can be acquired through training and interaction with client staff.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S., M.S., or PhD in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering, or similar.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in Probabilistic Risk Assessment.
- Deep knowledge of PRA principles and ASME/ANS PRA standards.
- Experience with risk-informed, performance-based regulations such as NEI 18-04 or 10 CFR 50.69.
- Expertise in PRA fundamentals including data analysis, human reliability, accident analysis, severe accidents, and source terms.
- Experience with PRA software like FRANX, CAFTA, SAPHIRE, Risk Spectrum, or similar.
- Experience with assessment codes like GOTHIC, MELCOR, RADTRAD is a plus.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Experience with sodium-cooled or advanced reactors is preferred.
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
- Broad understanding of engineering disciplines in nuclear plant design.
