Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) – Information Systems Engineer

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) seeks an Information Systems Engineer to design secure, mission-focused information systems and the applications, services, and components that support them. This role centers on system design and architecture, translating mission and customer needs into well-engineered system designs that can be confidently implemented and operated.

• Design complex, highly available information systems and support their implementation to ensure mission success.
• Provide clear guidance on selecting and implementing efficient solutions, including future capacity, facility requirements (floor layout, power, cooling, pathways), network connectivity, data storage, backup, and monitoring.
• Gather and synthesize system requirements from internal and external customers, defining operational requirements and integration with other systems.
• Work with cross-functional teams to convert requirements into workable system solutions that respect technical, schedule, and cost constraints; evaluate and recommend viable alternatives.
• Act as a multi-disciplinary engineer and subject matter expert for AWS cloud systems.
• Follow all applicable SDL engineering processes and assist in enhancing them.
• Serve as a peer reviewer for complex information system designs.
• Prepare engineering documentation for assigned systems and solutions.
• Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards.
• Provide technical expertise on projects and proposal efforts.
• Define and implement best practices to meet or exceed mission needs.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering science and 10+ years of experience, or a master’s degree and 8+ years, or a PhD and 4+ years.
• 5+ years of relevant experience architecting, designing, and engineering information systems.
• Proactive, self-directed, and motivated to own system design challenges.
• Demonstrated experience designing cloud technologies, with relevant certifications.
• Hands‑on experience designing or implementing cloud and hybrid systems in AWS Gov Cloud or commercial regions.
• Familiarity with the AWS Well‑Architected Framework.
• Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloud Formation, ARM, Bicep, or equivalent).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to balance engineering trade‑offs among customer requirements, schedule, funding, and best practices.
• Team‑oriented collaboration with internal and external members.
• Competence in budgeting and scheduling.
• U.S. citizen with an active TS clearance.
• Ability to travel.
• Valid CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent) required or required within 30 days of hire.

• Active Top Secret clearance.
• Strong understanding of networking, identity, security architecture, and system integration.
• Experience migrating or integrating on‑premises systems with cloud services.
• Experience with diagramming tools and MBSE methodologies.
• Familiarity with industry standards (TOGAF, IEEE/ISO/IEC 42010 & 42020).

$116,000 – $175,000 (general guideline; may vary by role, level, location, and qualifications).

This is an on‑site, non‑remote position at our North Logan, UT location. Travel is required, though not a normal expectation.
