What Your Job Will Be Like
Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a motivated and experienced Research & Development Engineer to join Org 1313, EM Systems Engineering & Qualification, at our Albuquerque, NM site. This mid-career position offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced engineering projects focused on identifying, analyzing, and mitigating unintended electromagnetic emissions to secure sensitive data and systems supporting national security missions.
The successful candidate will apply expertise in electromagnetic emissions security, circuit design and testing, and mitigation techniques to ensure compliance with stringent government standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and execute R&D projects related to electromagnetic emissions assessments, testing, and mitigation.
* Perform RF analysis, EMI/EMC testing, and implement shielding, filtering, and grounding countermeasures.
* Utilize RF test instrumentation such as spectrum analyzers, test receivers, and oscilloscopes to conduct emissions security assessments.
* Prepare detailed technical reports documenting test results, findings, and recommended countermeasures.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop secure hardware designs and ensure compliance with emissions security standards.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentor junior engineers on electromagnetic emissions security principles and practices.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Relocation will be provided for those that qualify.
Salary Range
$117,500 - $235,700
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
* A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance with Sigma 14/15
Qualifications We Desire
The ideal R&D S&E Electrical Engineer candidate will in addition possess the following:
* Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
* Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.
* Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.

* Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities for troubleshooting complex electromagnetic signal issues.
