Position OverviewKiewit Infrastructure Engineers is hiring a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in ports and marine projects. The role will work on an interdisciplinary team to evaluate site conditions, perform engineering analyses, design solutions, and prepare estimates for design‑build pursuits and ongoing projects in the Ports and Marine markets.
LocationThis position will be based out of our Bellevue, WA or Burnaby, BC office and includes travel to project sites and offices. Flexible work options are available.
Responsibilities- Support the bid phase development of innovative and cost‑effective designs.
- Work with and provide direction to the interdisciplinary engineering team and design subcontractors to develop competitive, cost‑effective designs.
- Assist the pursuit team during the bid phase to identify key design risks and develop risk mitigation plans.
- Advance bid‑phase design concepts to IFC designs for successful pursuits.
- Oversee engineering services during construction and conduct field reviews during the execution phase.
- Capture and disseminate design lessons learned and innovations across districts.
- Support the development of early- and mid‑career geotechnical engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geological Engineering; graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- Qualified Geologist and/or Geomorphologist would be a PLUS.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer or eligible for registration in home office State / Province.
- 15+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience with 10+ years providing solutions in ports and marine‑related infrastructure projects.
- Strong academic knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
- Experience designing docking structures such as combi‑walls, sheet pile walls, tangent walls, cellular structures, and evaluating underwater slope stability and impacts to pile‑supported structures.
- Professional experience with finite element software (PLAXIS 2‑D, 3‑D or FLAC).
- Comprehension of pertinent standards and codes.
- Experience working in a team setting and directing the work of others.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Strong people skills and ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
- Physical ability to access all points of a construction site in varying climates and environmental conditions.
- Ability to travel to project sites.
- EPC and/or Design‑Build experience preferred.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others.
- Perform work safely and effectively, following oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and policies.
- Work during normal operating hours; overtime and weekends as required.
- May work at various locations with differing conditions.
Base compensation range: $175,000/yr – $235,000/yr (actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skill set, and/or location).
