Energy Efficiency Engineer

Job Overview

Michaels Energy is seeking an Energy Engineer to support utility energy efficiency programs in Colorado. The role includes performing energy assessments, detailed studies on commercial and industrial buildings, recommending changes to building automation systems, performing energy calculations, and writing reports.

• Identify energy efficiency measures and perform energy engineering calculations and simulations of equipment.
• Estimate project costs and produce technical reports.
• Communicate with clients and customers through onsite and virtual meetings, presentations, and both technical and non‑technical writing.
• Assist with multiple SEM customer engagements, completing one Demand Response assessment within the first 3 months.
• Gain proficiency in two regional energy efficiency programs within 6 months.
• Lead customer meetings and project report‑outs; act as primary engineer on at least one SEM engagement and facilitate at least one Demand Response customer within 6 months.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or building systems engineering.
• Three to seven years’ experience in any of the following:
• Energy efficiency industry (utilities or performance contracting)
• HVAC operations, controls, and/or building energy investigations
• Utility program experience in retro‑commissioning, ASHRAE level 2 energy audits, or custom rebate calculations
• Electrification technologies (heat pumps, heat recovery chillers, etc.)
• Managing building retrofit projects
• Implementing controls upgrades
• Building codes/safety standards
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining complex ideas to varied audiences.
• Strong interfacing skills with contractors and building owners.
• Deep interest in energy, systems, and process efficiency, and in improving productivity.
• Lifelong self‑learner mentality.
• Ability to travel up to 25% regionally for on‑site customer work, with minimal overnight stays.

$105,000 – $125,000.

• Sit, stand, and walk moderate distances.
• Frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds.
• Occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally crawl on the floor and climb ladders.
