Job Overview
We are seeking a Substation Protection & Control Engineer to design and plan substation protection and control projects for electric utilities at 12 kV up to 500 kV. The role involves digital logic design, AC & DC circuits, and integration with renewable energy generation.
Location & Work ArrangementFully Remote work – candidates may work from anywhere, but must be located in the Denver, CO or Minneapolis, MN area and be willing to travel to customer sites.

- Design Relay One‑Line, Three‑Line AC and DC protection schematics
- Develop panel layouts, wiring designs, and bills of materials
- Perform quality‑control checks on wiring designs
- Support projects from scoping to final design and implementation
- Assist in construction support
- Apply the National Electrical Safety Code and client standards to all designs
- Collaborate with designers and drafter to produce required drawings
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- At least two (2+) years of substation protection and control design or field testing/commissioning experience
- Experience executing substation protection and control projects
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients
- Ability to read and design one‑line, three‑line, AC/DC schematic, and wiring drawings
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
- Collaborative and leadership skills in a team environment
- Self‑starter who can work independently with minimal direction
- Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
- High computer competency
- Willingness to travel to project/client sites and headquarters
- Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience performing quality‑control checks on small substation protection and control design projects
- Experience using CAD tools
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Field testing/commissioning experience
This position requires compliance with quality control, safety practices, project scope, schedule, and budget. Successful candidates will join a design team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians to deliver compliant, client‑standard aligned solutions.
