Opportunity for licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) to work for yourself as a consulting project engineer.
Level Engineering & Architecture is seeking a Licensed Civil Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the Tampa and Orlando Metros and surrounding areas. 1099 contract, with up‑capped commissions, a full workload opportunity that allows for flexibility, within the Metro region.
Hybrid LocationDay‑to‑day work is remote, with local presence required for site visits, meetings, and municipal coordination.
Core Responsibilities- Execute civil engineering design and analysis for:
- Land development
- Roadways, bridges, and trails
- Drainage and grading
- Water and wastewater systems
- Municipal and on‑call projects
- Prepare design documents, technical reports, and calculations
- Coordinate with surveyors, geotechnical consultants, and internal teams
- Project Manage individual projects and client relationships independently
- Communicate professionally and directly with clients, municipalities, and other stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations
- Support quality control and project delivery schedules
- Engineers/Architects who experience the highest success develop and maintain a personal referral‑based project pipeline
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineering License or active licensure track
- 6+ years of civil engineering experience with increasing responsibility
- Strong civil design background (land development and/or municipal)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Experience coordinating consultants and project partners
- Ability to manage projects independently and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship)
Preferred:
- Experience with stormwater management and grading design
- Familiarity with municipal permitting and review processes
- Prior experience working directly with clients and other stakeholders
- Inbound project opportunities through regional marketing
- Professional liability (E&O) insurance coverage
- Professional engineering skills development through mentorship
- Back office – Proposal, invoicing, and administrative support systems
- Technical collaboration within the Florida and National team
- Access to a company network of civil, structural, MEP, forensic engineers and architects
- Credibility – Professional A/E/C firm website presence that you can confidently direct clients to
- Weekly regional and national coordination calls
- This is a 1099 contracted role offering flexible schedule and growth as an independent engineer.
- Typical annual earnings range from $75,000 to $175,000 (uncapped), depending on workload and capability.
- Uncapped earning potential tied to project volume and individual capacity
The first 60–90 days are treated as a ramp period to allow time for onboarding, systems integration, and pipeline development before transitioning into the standard production minimum requirements.
