Network Modeler
Contract Length: 6 Months (Potential for Extension)
Compensation: $65-$75/hour
Location: Fully Remote (U.S.)
Schedule: Full-Time (1st shift, M-F, central standard time zone)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Network Modeler to support the development, maintenance, and validation of electrical network models within an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) environment.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of utility network data by supporting SCADA modeling, GIS integration, distribution automation initiatives, and operational system displays. The ideal candidate will have experience working with electrical distribution systems, utility operations, network modeling, and data validation.
Experience with Schneider Electric Eco Struxure ADMS is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Network Modeling & SCADA Support
- Build and maintain network displays for distribution, substation, and transmission systems.
- Configure and maintain SCADA mappings for electrical devices.
- Create, validate, and maintain one-line diagrams and distribution automation views.
- Analyze and validate auto-generated network displays and system models.
- Maintain internal system configurations and views to support utility operations.
- Develop and maintain symbols and symbol profiles within the ADMS platform.
- Promote, deploy, and manage network model updates.
- Integrate and support additional data feeds, including:
- Load profiles
- Customer data
- Operational datasets
- Develop, analyze, and maintain supplemental data sources used by ADMS.
- Manage non-telemetered points, including tags, catalogs, notes, and associated configurations.
- Import GIS data and validate network model accuracy.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data discrepancies.
- Define data cleanup requirements and provide guidance to GIS teams.
- Review and validate network and substation models against established business standards.
- Support testing and commissioning of new electrical devices.
- Troubleshoot network model and device integration issues.
- Provide technical support during point-to-point testing activities.
- Document findings and communicate issues effectively across teams.
- Partner with Engineering, GIS, SCADA, Operations, and Field teams to ensure data accuracy and system reliability.
- Review and provide guidance on work completed by junior team members.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to network modeling and data quality.
- Assist in developing standards and best practices for model maintenance and validation.
Education
Bachelor's degree in one of the following or a related technical discipline:
- Computer Science
- Computer Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Information Technology
- Computer Information Systems
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Engineering
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and utility operations.
- Experience working with:
- SCADA systems
- ADMS platforms
- GIS applications
- Network modeling tools
- Knowledge of common electrical distribution equipment, including:
- Reclosers
- Switches
- Transformers
- Feeders
- Elbows
- Familiarity with electrical concepts such as voltage, frequency, and distribution system operations.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret, validate, and maintain complex network models.
- 3-5+ years of experience in:
- Utility operations
- SCADA modeling
- ADMS administration
- GIS
- Network modeling
- Experience with Schneider Electric Eco Struxure ADMS.
- Experience supporting electric distribution, substation, or transmission systems.
- Familiarity with distribution automation and utility telemetry systems.
- Experience integrating GIS, SCADA, and Operational Technology (OT) data sources.
- Knowledge of utility testing, commissioning, and device validation processes.
