Position Overview

We are adding an Environmental Manager to lead and oversee environmental management practices and permitting compliance for our construction projects in the Midwest region of the U.S. and Canada.

You will play a critical role in construction by ensuring environmental regulations are followed and sustainability goals are met. Your work helps minimize the ecological footprint of construction activities while keeping projects compliant and efficient.

Location

This position will be based in the Lenexa, KS or Omaha, NE office and require travel 40–60% of the time to construction project locations throughout the Midwest U.S.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert for environmental compliance and permitting for assigned Midwest region construction projects.
  • Identify, assess, and reduce environmental risks to the company.
  • Develop and implement environmental plans.
  • Oversee and review field inspections and monitoring protocols.
  • Ensure project permits, licenses, plans and contract commitments are up-to-date and tracked.
  • Maintain project data tracking requirements and report on environmental project status.
  • Communicate environmental costs at the project level.
  • Develop and conduct environmental training across various levels within the company.
  • Act as the principal technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues on assigned projects and clients.
  • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings, minimizing adverse effects to the environment and local communities, and ensure all necessary permits are in place.
  • Assist projects and facilities with maintaining environmental records.
  • Conduct site visits to provide technical environmental support for projects and facilities.
  • Attend field visits with clients and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Liaise with the client to provide design information, schedule details, quantities, and to keep them informed of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting and compliance issues.
Qualifications
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in an environmental or engineering related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience leading environmental compliance for large‑scale construction projects, preferably on EPC projects.
  • Certifications in stormwater management, corrosion and sediment control, remediation, and/or Qualified Environmental Professional designation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal environmental legislations.
  • Highly motivated with a demonstrated passion for excellence and initiative.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to get work done right the first time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Passion for safety and ability to help ensure no injuries.
  • Ability to travel as necessary to project sites and to client and Kiewit offices.
  • Team player capable of working independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail, with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
