The City of Saint Paul Regional Water Services is hiring a Civil Engineer III to join our Project Engineering team. Candidates hired into this role will be involved in a wide range of projects supporting the supply, treatment, storage, and distribution of drinking water throughout the utility system.
Projects may include pump station upgrades, water main replacement programs, supply and transmission infrastructure improvements, process piping and chemical feed system upgrades, structural rehabilitation projects, condition assessments, and a variety of engineering planning and evaluation studies. The position will support the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of critical infrastructure improvements intended to enhance system reliability, resiliency, operational efficiency, and long‑term asset performance.
Responsibilities- Perform full‑performance professional engineering in design, plans, specifications, operation, construction, and cost estimates of SPRWS projects.
- Participate with higher‑level engineers in the planning of water utility improvements.
- Act as a chief inspector on large and complex projects.
- Prepare and administer contracts and reports.
- Gather required information for budget development.
- Represent the department at public meetings.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and at least four (4) years of professional experience in civil engineering, with at least two (2) years as a Civil Engineer II-SPRWS or equivalent.
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota; no substitution for education.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or an equivalent out‑of‑state license.
- Acceptable related degrees include Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, Water Resources, Structural Engineering, or other engineering fields with relevant experience.
This position is based out of the SPRWS Administration Building at 1900 Rice Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota. The role follows a standard 8‑hour workday schedule with flexibility in start and end times and may allow remote work up to two days per week. Field work and site visits are part of the position.
