Position Overview
This position assists with bridge scoping and consultant contract management for bridge projects in the Metro Region. It supports the development of bridge preservation and improvement projects through detailed inspection and scoping, field reviews, preparation of scoping documents, coordination of consultant contracts, and ensuring alignment with MDOT standards. The position also supports programming, asset management, and quality assurance efforts in coordination with the Region, Transportation Service Center, and Lansing staff.

Education and Experience Education
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering; bachelor of science degree in civil engineering preferred. Applicants obtaining a bachelor’s degree by May 31, 2026 may be considered.
Experience- Transportation Engineer 9 - No specific type or amount required.
- Transportation Engineer 10 - One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.
- Transportation Engineer P11 - Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.
- Transportation Engineer 12 - Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11.
Education and Experience
Possession of a registered professional engineer license may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
Additional Requirements and Information- The position requires a valid driver’s license to perform field reviews and inspections.
- MDOT does not participate in E-Verify and does not sponsor visa applications.
- All new state employees must submit and pass a pre‑employment drug test and physical (if applicable) prior to appointment. Criminal background and driving records will be checked. Offer contingent on eligibility.
